3. GBC HIRES TOP MTA PLANNER HENRY KAY TO HEAD REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION ADVOCACY COALITION
Henry M. Kay, currently the planning director for the Maryland Transit Administration, has been named to direct a new private regional coalition led by the Greater Baltimore Committee to push for the funding and development of the proposed Baltimore Regional Rail System.

2. BRIDGING THE GAP: A SOUND BUSINESS STRATEGY IS KEY TO SECURING ACCESS TO CAPITAL
Creating a sound business plan is essential for entrepreneurs to secure financing, according to a panel of experts at a March 31 GBC seminar for minority entrepreneurs.

3. O'MALLEY SEEKS BUSINESS EXPERTISE TO ADDRESS SCHOOLS' FISCAL CRISIS
Stating that he is "increasingly optimistic" over the prospects of solving the city school system's current fiscal crisis, Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley asked the Greater Baltimore Committee on March 25 to help him recruit volunteers who are experts in some key areas of business management.

4. EBDI, UMB UPDATE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT PROFESSIONALS ON LIFE SCIENCES PRIORITIES
The Greater Baltimore Committee hosted a group of economic development professionals on March 30 to update them on Baltimore's two life sciences parks. Jim Hughes, Vice President for Research and Development at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) and Jack Shannon, CEO of East Baltimore Development Inc. (EBDI) discussed the most recent developments on Baltimore's west and east sides.

5. ORIOLES BOX SEATS FOR SALE ON GBC WEBSITE
The GBC is offering its members the opportunity to buy box seat tickets to Orioles home games this season on its website, www.gbc.org. Located in a field box in section 42, Row JJ, ten rows behind home plate just to the 3rd base side, tickets for 34 games are available for purchase online.

1. APRIL 21 BRIDGING THE GAP WORKSHOP LOOKS AT SURETY BONDING
The Greater Baltimore Committee will present a workshop on "Gaining Access to Surety Bonding" for minority business owners and managers at 4:15 p.m. on April 21 in the GBC Board Room. As the second workshop in the GBC's Bridging the Gap program, this session aims to teach minority entrepreneurs how to obtain surety bonds for public works contracts. American Skyline Insurance Company and Struever Bros. Eccles & Rouse, Inc. are sponsoring the event.

2. HOPKINS LEGEND SOL SNYDER SPEAKS TO GBC ON APRIL 22
On April 22 at 8 a.m., meet Hopkins legend Dr. Solomon Snyder, who has seen his discoveries lead to the development of drugs like Prozac and Viagra. Snyder, head of the department of neuroscience at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, will speak as part of the GBC's 2004 Bioscience Series, co-sponsored by the Greater Baltimore Technology Council.

3. SPEND "AN EVENING AT THE HIPPODROME" WITH GBC ON APRIL 26
On Monday, April 26, join the GBC for an evening of networking and behind-the-scenes tours of the Hippodrome Theatre at the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center during its Business After Hours event at 5:30 p.m. in the M&T Bank Pavilion. See the newly restored centerpiece of Baltimore's west side. The Greater Baltimore Committee, a long-time supporter of Broadway theater in Baltimore, played a central role in launching and nurturing this signature project.
