1. GREATER BALTIMORE COMMITTEE RELEASES FIRST 'SCORECARD'
The Greater Baltimore Committee has issued its first "scorecard" providing a semi-annual review of GBC initiatives and key strategic regional indicators.

2. GBC'S NEW TRANSPORTATION AND MOBILITY COMMITTEE REVIEWS PORT, BWI STATUS
As Baltimore's port gains market share in key import categories, the port's biggest challenge will be to find land to expand port facilities to accommodate projected business growth, according to James J. White, executive director of the Maryland Port Administration (MPA). White was one of two featured guests at the first meeting of the GBC's new Transportation and Mobility Committee on Nov. 19.

3. GBC STATE HOUSE UPDATE NEWSLETTER, WEBSITE WIN CIRCLE OF EXCELLENCE AWARDS
The Greater Baltimore Committee is the winner of two Circle of Excellence Awards, presented by the Maryland Society of Association Executives (MSAE). The GBC's State House Update newsletter garnered first place among the newsletter entries. Its website earned second place in the Web Sites category.

4. HOLIDAY EVENTS, HOMELESSNESS AND ZOO ARE FEATURED TOPICS ON DECEMBER "ISSUES & ANSWERS"
Find out what events are happening downtown for the holidays on December segments of "Issues & Answers," as GBC President Donald C. Fry interviews Downtown Partnership's Michelle Whelley. The show, produced by Comcast in partnership with the GBC, will focus on homelessness, panhandling and sidewalk legislation, with experts including Downtown Partnership's Tom Yeager and Alex Boston of the Mayor's Office of Homeless Services. In addition, the Baltimore Zoo is featured this month as Billie Grieb talks about the Baltimore attraction's current financial crisis and long-term plans.

5. BOARD MEMBERSHIP IS A 'PROCESS, NOT AN EPIPHANY,' SAYS EXPERT
Becoming a member of a corporate or nonprofit board takes time, GBC members were told at a GBC seminar focusing on board membership basics. Getting invited to join a board "is a process, not an epiphany," Daily Record Publisher Chris Eddings told the audience of more than 100 board hopefuls on November 19 at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore.

6. WOODS SCHOLARS ASK GBC BUSINESSES TO PROVIDE INTERNSHIPS, OTHER SUPPORT
Students from Baltimore City Community College's Granville T. Woods Scholars Program presented to the GBC Education Committee in November, asking its members to provide internships and financial resources to maintain the program.

7. COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTERS PREDICT NEED FOR ADDITIONAL WORKERS BY 2006
Community health centers, which aim to provide health care services to all residents in under-served areas, will significantly expand their reach across the country during the next three years, according to Miguel McInnis, MPH, CEO of the Mid-Atlantic Association of Community Health Centers and Jay Wolvovsky, executive director of Baltimore Medical Systems, Inc.

1. ELEVEN WINNERS NAMED TO RECEIVE 2003 MAYOR'S BUSINESS RECOGNITION AWARDS ON DECEMBER 9
Nine Baltimore-area businesses, a nonprofit organization, and a professional association have been named winners of the 2003 Mayor's Business Recognition Awards for civic leadership and outstanding community service. Click here for the list of winners.

2. SAVE THE DATE! GBC LEGISLATIVE FORUM IS JANUARY 26
On Monday, January 26 at 8:15 a.m., the GBC will hold its annual Legislative Forum at the Renaissance Harborplace Hotel to discuss pending issues before the 2004 General Assembly session. This year's panelists include The Hon. Ulysses Currie, chairman, Senate Budget and Taxation Committee; The Hon. Sheila E. Hixson, chair, House Ways and Means Committee; The Hon. Maggie McIntosh, chair, House Environmental Matters Committee; House Minority Leader George C. Edwards; Department of Budget and Management Secretary James C. "Chip" DiPaula, and Josh Kurtz, politics editor, Roll Call, Inc.
