1. GOVERNOR, MED CHI TO FILE MEDICAL MALPRACTICE AND HEALTH CARE ACCESS BILLS
Two bills aimed at expanding access to health care in Maryland and focusing on issues surrounding medical liability have surfaced in the 2004 Maryland General Assembly, according to speakers at the GBC's Legislative Forum on January 26. (See related story No. 7 below)

2. LIFE SCIENCES, HERITAGE TAX CREDITS TOP GBC'S 2004 GENERAL ASSEMBLY PRIORITIES
Support for development of the life sciences industry and other technology-based businesses, strengthening regional transportation, and continuing the state's successful heritage rehabilitation tax credit program are the Greater Baltimore Committee's top legislative priorities for the 2004 General Assembly session.

3. SHARE IN THE SUCCESS OF THE GBC - RECRUIT A MEMBER AND WIN
All GBC members are invited to participate in the Greater Baltimore Committee's new Member-Get-A-Member campaign. Prizes including GBC event tickets, Ravens skybox tickets and Hippodrome Theatre tickets will be awarded to current GBC members who recruit new businesses to join the GBC.

4. ONLINE DUES PAYMENT NOW AVAILABLE ON GBC WEBSITE
The GBC now offers its members online dues renewal. Members that have received a bill in the mail to renew their dues may now pay them online.

5. BLACK HISTORY MONTH, HIPPODROME THEATRE HIGHLIGHTED ON "ISSUES & ANSWERS" IN FEBRUARY
"Issues & Answers" in February focuses on Black History Month and on the Hippodrome Theatre, which opens as the France-Merrick Performing Arts Center on February 10. This month's guests on the show include George Russell of the Reginald F. Lewis Museum of African American History, Wayne Frazier of the Maryland-Washington Minority Contractors' Association, G.I. Johnson, president of the NAACP Baltimore Branch, Wally Pinkard of the Hippodrome Foundation and Rick Slosson of the Maryland Stadium Authority.

7. HURSON PREVIEWS HEALTH CARE INITIATIVE FOR THE UNINSURED
Maryland's health care system has not succeeded in increasing the availability of health care services to the uninsured. More than 600,000 Marylanders currently have no way of accessing these services, according to Delegate John Hurson, chairman of the House Health and Government Operations Committee.

1. GBC'S FEBRUARY 18 BIOSCIENCE SERIES FOCUSES ON BIOTECH VENTURE CAPITAL
On February 18, get an inside view of biotech venture capital from those who make the decision to invest in a company - or not. In the first program of the GBC's Bioscience Series, venture capitalists Chris Cantarella and Rene Salas from Ernst & Young LLP talk about the state of the biotech venture capital market today, where it is headed and how to make an educated decision about whether or not to invest in biotechnology.

2. MARCH 3 GBC SEMINAR: CEOS, EXECUTIVE COACHES TEACH HOW TO INCREASE LEADERSHIP EFFECTIVENESS
Executive coaching, one of the most talked-about tools in executive development today, is the focus of the GBC's March 3 Business Education Seminar. From 8:15 - 10 a.m. at the Johns Hopkins Downtown Center, a panel of top executives from Prometric and an executive coach from DBM explain everything that you need to know about the coaching process.
