1. THE YEAR IN REVIEW: GBC FOCUSES ON BIOTECHNOLOGY, TRANSPORTATION, HARBOR AND SCHOOLS IN 2003; GAINS 75 NEW MEMBERS
The GBC played a major role during 2003 in facilitating the development of the Baltimore region's emerging biotechnology industry. The GBC also campaigned for a stronger regional rail transit system and improved management of Baltimore's Inner Harbor, issued a game plan for improving the fiscal management of Baltimore City Public Schools, and coordinated the publication of the 2003 State of the Region Report.

Meanwhile, the GBC launched "Bridging the Gap," a program aimed at building minority business resources and promoting inclusion in emerging business development opportunities. The GBC also significantly strengthened its membership development, attracting more than 75 new members during Donald C. Fry's first full year as GBC president.

In 2004, the GBC is focusing its efforts on economic growth initiatives such as nurturing the growth of the region's life sciences industry and improving regional transportation and mobility. The Bridging the Gap initiative is also a top priority as the GBC works to create more equity and partnership relationships for minority-owned businesses.
