3. GBC MEMBERSHIP DIRECTORY OFFERS ADVERTISING OPPORTUNITIES
Production of the GBC's 2002 Membership Directory and Business Guide is underway. This year's directory will again be published by Media Two, a leading supplier of custom publishing services in the mid-Atlantic region. Advertising space is available to GBC members only, along with an additional opportunity to be listed, to advertise and to link member websites to the GBC's online business guide at www.gbc.org.

Distributed to more than 1,200 CEOs and executives throughout Greater Baltimore, the GBC directory serves as the region's handbook of business leadership. GBC members will be listed both in alphabetical order and by business category, along with member e-mail and website information. The directory will again feature a "Who's Who" listing of key contacts for each of our member firms. A new feature of this year's directory will be a web resource guide, a quick reference to Maryland business and government resources.

For more information on advertising in the GBC membership directory, contact Therese Bonander at
410-828-0120, x237.

4. REMEDIAL REQUIREMENTS POSE A BARRIER TO BALTIMORE CITY COMMUNITY COLLEGE
While most educators concede that remedial courses are "a way of life" at community colleges, the need for remedial education at Baltimore City Community College is so substantial that it constitutes a major barrier to the college's ability to achieve its mission, a recent report by the Abell Foundation concludes.

"We really need to take a hard look at how we can reform developmental education," Dr. Jerome Atkins, BCCC's academic vice president, told members of the GBC Education Committee at its June 4 meeting. Atkins joined Abell researchers in presenting the report to committee members.

5. EFFECTIVE LEADERS MUST EXPECT TO BE CHALLENGED, SAYS COACH BILLICK
Effective leaders must be well-prepared with a vision and goals for their organization, and they must expect to be challenged, Baltimore Ravens Head Coach Brian Billick told more than 180 GBC members and guests who attended the June 7 Business Education Seminar on "Leadership."
