1. EAST SIDE BIOPARK UPDATE: EBDI WORKING TO CLEAR SITE, SET UP
COMMUNITY RESOURCE CENTER
East Baltimore Development, Inc., the not-for-profit organization formed to develop a biotech park and revitalize neighborhoods around Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions, is moving aggressively under its new CEO to clear the site for the first biotech building and to establish a community resource center.

2. GBC WELCOMES 42 NEW MEMBERS
The Greater Baltimore Committee has welcomed 42 new members since January of 2003. To view a list of new members, click here.
3. GBC WEBSITE NAMED AMONG "BEST IN MARYLAND"
The GBC website won second place recently in a statewide public relations awards competition. Honored with a Best in Maryland Award by the Maryland chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA-MD), the GBC website, www.gbc.org, is the organization's primary communications vehicle.

4. COPELAND VOWS DEDICATION TO STUDENTS, STRENGTHENING OF FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT AT BCPSS
When Bonnie Copeland becomes interim CEO of Baltimore City Public School System (BCPSS) on July 1, her priorities will be crystal clear - to make sure schools are staffed with the "best and brightest teachers and the best and brightest principals."

5. PROJECT 5000 TARGETS 10 CITY NEIGHBORHOODS
More than 70 percent of vacant properties targeted for acquisition by the city are located in 10 Baltimore neighborhoods, the director of the city's property acquisition initiative told the GBC Built Environment Committee on June 12.

6. REPORT SUGGESTS STRATEGIES FOR IMPROVING REGIONAL IT PRACTICES
State and local governments can lead the way in creating a thriving information technology (IT) culture for their regions, according to a recent report examining the use of IT across the country. The Brookings Institution Center on Urban and Metropolitan Policy's study on "What the IT Revolution Means for Regional Economic Development," presented to the GBC Technology Policy Work Group on June 11, suggests several actions that regions and their governments can take to become more competitive in information technology practices.

7. SCIENCE CENTER HONORS WALTER SONDHEIM
Walter Sondheim Jr., senior adviser to the GBC, was the guest of honor at the Maryland Science Center's June 21st fundraising gala, "Solstice '03."

8. EMBRY HONORED FOR HIS WORK TO HELP EX-OFFENDERS
GBC board member Robert C. Embry Jr., president of the Abell Foundation, was recently honored by the Mayor's Office of Employment Development for his work to cultivate employment opportunities for ex-offenders.

10. "ISSUES & ANSWERS" HIGHLIGHTS TOURIST ACTIVITIES IN JULY
It's summer and tourists are flocking to Baltimore to explore its many museums and cultural attractions. "Issues & Answers", the public affairs show produced by Comcast in partnership with the GBC, highlights some of these attractions in its current segments running through the end of July. Guests include Rebecca Hoffberger, director and founder, American Visionary Arts Museum; James Piper Bond, president & CEO, Living Classrooms Foundation; Lee Corrigan, president, Corrigan Sports Enterprises; Dennis Fiori, director, Maryland Historical Society; Sandy Bellamy, interim executive director, Reginald F. 11. MAKING PRESENTATIONS: AVOID THE 'VULCAN DEATH GRIP'
You're six minutes into your 20-minute presentation. Already you are losing your audience's attention. You check your speaking posture, and realize you are performing the Vulcan Death Grip, a common presentation affliction, according to Michael Sullivan of Weber Shandwick, who presented at a GBC seminar on June 4.
