3. GBC GOLF CLASSIC IS JULY 9 AT GREYSTONE
The GBC's 2003 Golf Classic takes place at Greystone Golf Course in White Hall, MD on Wednesday, July 9. The event begins with an 8 a.m. shotgun start and features contests for longest drive, closest to the pin and hole in one, as well as a luncheon and awards ceremony.
Cost is $150 per golfer and $600 per foursome before 6/20/03. After that date, prices are $175 per golfer and $700 per foursome. Various sponsorship opportunities are available.

1. GREATER BALTIMORE COMMITTEE PLEDGES TO RAISE $1 MILLION FOR EAST SIDE REVITALIZATION
The Greater Baltimore Committee has pledged to raise $1 million to help fund the operating costs of the nonprofit group that will develop a two-million square-foot biotech research park in East Baltimore and manage a comprehensive revitalization of surrounding neighborhoods. The GBC's new chairman, Christian H. Poindexter, announced the financial commitment at the organization's 2003 Annual Meeting on May 20.

2. POINDEXTER NAMED GBC CHAIRMAN; GEHRIG NAMED VICE CHAIR
Christian H. Poindexter, retired chairman of Constellation Energy Group, was named chairman of the Greater Baltimore Committee at its 2003 annual meeting on May 20. He succeeds Francis B. Burch, Jr. of Piper Rudnick, who served as GBC chairman since May, 2001.
Barbara A. Gehrig, Comcast's senior vice president for its Maryland-Delaware region, was named vice chair. Robert C. Embry, president of the Abell Foundation, will continue as the GBC's secretary and treasurer.

3. GBC NAMES NEW BOARD MEMBERS
Thirteen new board members were named by the GBC at its 2003 Annual Meeting on May 20, including top executives from the region's corporate, academic, health care, media, and technology sectors.

5. GBC, GBA AND DOWNTOWN PARTNERSHIP UNVEIL PLAN TO STRENGTHEN BUSINESS OUTREACH, INITIATIVES AND PROGRAMS
On May 9, the Downtown Partnership of Baltimore, the Greater Baltimore Alliance, and the Greater Baltimore Committee unveiled a plan to significantly strengthen their working relationships and their combined effectiveness while retaining their independent status.

6. GREG HERBERT JOINS GBC STAFF
Gregory A. Herbert joined the GBC staff on April 28 as the organization's new financial officer, replacing Michele Kesler, who recently moved to Germany.

7. GBC'S SONDHEIM HONORED BY MARYLAND CENTENARIANS COMMITTEE
GBC Senior Adviser Walter Sondheim, Jr. was honored by the Maryland Centenarians Committee, Inc. (MCC) as Honorary Chairperson in Waiting at the organization's annual luncheon on May 8. While he is not yet 100 years old, the committee voted to honor Sondheim, 94, for his accomplishments and influence on the city of Baltimore and in the state of Maryland.

8. FORMER SECRETARY OF DEFENSE WILLIAM COHEN SHARES IRAQ PERSPECTIVE WITH GBC
Former Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen on April 25 offered more than 100 GBC members a unique insider's assessment of the Iraq war and Middle East issues, as well as glimpse of what it's like on the front lines of international relations.

9. GBC MEMBERS LEARN TIPS ON EFFECTIVE E-MAIL COMMUNICATIONS
