1. LEARN TO MANAGE TEAM CONFLICT AT OCTOBER 8 GBC SEMINAR
Have you ever been surprised by conflict within your work team? Learn how to recognize the five early warning signs of workplace conflict at the GBC's October 8 Breakfast Briefing Seminar, "Team Conflict," featuring Sheila Cox, president of Performance Horizons, Inc., a management consulting firm. At the event, which begins at 8:15 a.m. in the GBC Board Room, you will learn three critical strategies for conflict prevention and four techniques that you can use immediately to resolve disagreements and rebuild teamwork in your organization.

2. OCTOBER 21 IS GBC'S 2004 BUSINESS OUTLOOK
The GBC's Business Outlook 2004 event is scheduled for Tuesday, October 21, 2003. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., and the program runs from 8:15 a.m.-10 a.m. at the Wyndham Baltimore Inner Harbor Hotel, located at 101 W. Fayette Street in Baltimore.

The nomination deadline for the 2003 Mayor's Business Recognition Awards is October 17, 2003. The Leadership, a yearlong program sponsored by the GBC, is seeking candidates for its class of 2004. 1. NEW INNER HARBOR MASTER PLAN TO BE FINALIZED IN WEEKS
A team of consultants should produce the final version of a new master plan for Baltimore's Inner Harbor by early October, according to officials from the Baltimore Development Corporation and the Baltimore City Department of Planning.
Paul Dombrowski, director of the BDC's design and planning team, and Laurie Feinberg, urban design division manager for the city Department of Planning, reviewed key elements of the proposed new master plan for members of the GBC's Hospitality/Tourism Industry Group on September 9.

2. GBC HOSTS RECEPTION FOR NEW MEMBERS
Almost 20 new members of the Greater Baltimore Committee attended a reception hosted by the GBC on September 11. GBC President Donald C. Fry described the history, accomplishments, and current priorities of the GBC and explained how they can maximize the value of their membership by becoming involved in GBC events and committees.

3. "ISSUES & ANSWERS" TO FEATURE GOVERNOR EHRLICH IN UPCOMING SEGMENTS
"Issues & Answers," the public affairs program produced by Comcast in partnership with the GBC, will feature a 10-part segment with Governor Ehrlich from mid-October through mid-November. The schedule of Ehrlich's appearances on the show will be posted on the GBC website in October.
In the meantime, guests through mid-October will discuss the state budget and legislative issues. They include Sen. Nancy Jacobs, Senate Chair, Harford County Delegation; Del. Frank Turner, House Chair, Howard County Delegation; Del. Joseph Minnick, House Chair, Baltimore County Delegation; Robert McCord, Legislative Liaison, Harford County Dept. of Law; and Sen. 4. BUSINESSES URGED TO PARTICIPATE IN PROGRAM TEACHING HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS REAL-LIFE JOB SKILLS
More than 100 employee volunteers from Northrop Grumman are mentors to Baltimore City high school students through a program designed for students with an interest in engineering and science. Denise Christopher Millner and Ted Imes from Northrop Grumman explained the program, entitled "WORTHY" (Worthwhile to Help High School Youth), to the GBC Education Committee in September to lay out a framework for how businesses can partner with schools, a key area of focus for the Education Committee this year.

5. REPORT SUGGESTS WAYS TO ALLEVIATE MARYLAND'S NURSING SHORTAGE
Maryland's health care industry faces a continuing shortage of health care workers that will grow to a deficit of 17,000 registered nurses by the year 2012, according to Dr. Barbara Heller of the University of Maryland, Baltimore. As the executive director for the university's Center for Health Workforce Development, Heller co-authored a study on Maryland's nursing shortage and described the report's findings at a recent meeting of the GBC's Health Care Committee.

6. GBC'S BUILT ENVIRONMENT COMMITTEE TO EXAMINE AFFORDABLE HOUSING
The Greater Baltimore Committee's Built Environment Committee will examine affordable housing issues in Baltimore, after reviewing on September 18 the results of a report on neighborhood investment that compares Baltimore to three similar cities in their efforts to reinvest in the housing stock of their communities.
