HEALTH CLINIC
Adopting a key management recommendation from the Greater Baltimore Committee and the Presidents' Roundtable, Baltimore City Mayor Martin O'Malley announced on August 14 that the city is outsourcing its employee health clinic. The city is also outsourcing its worker's compensation program, projecting that the combined actions would save $18 million over the next five years.
Outsourcing the health clinic was among prominent recommendations made by the GBC and the Presidents' Roundtable in a report to the mayor in July 2001 outlining options for reforming the city's personnel management.

6. BUSINESS VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR CAMPAIGN TO HELP STUDENTS
GBC volunteers from the business community are needed to help send a message to ninth grade students that how they perform in high school impacts their future success. The Maryland Business Roundtable for Education (MBRT) is assembling its speaker's bureau for this year's Achievement Counts campaign, seeking business representatives to make presentations to high school students on the importance of performing well in school, building an impressive transcript, and preparing for the workforce.
The program, now in its 4th year, is looking for articulate, energetic business people ages 20-35 of various cultural, ethnic and educational backgrounds. Both college graduates and those who entered the workforce directly after high school are needed.
To volunteer for Achievement Counts or to suggest someone that may be interested, contact LaTara Gray at 410-727-0488. Click here for more information about MBRT's Achievement Counts program.
