1. UB PRESIDENT BOGOMOLNY PRESENTS "LEADING STRATEGIC CHANGE"
AT SEPTEMBER 10 GBC SEMINAR
Success in a competitive environment depends on a diverse group of constituents agreeing to common objectives. University of Baltimore President Robert L. Bogomolny will outline his personal experiences with consensus building at the September 10 GBC Breakfast Briefing "Leading Strategic Change."
Beginning at 8:15 a.m. in the GBC Board Room, you will find out the techniques that you can use to maximize acceptance throughout your organization of new goals, priorities and direction. The cost is $25 for GBC members and $40 for non-members. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m.

2. MAYOR'S BUSINESS RECOGNITION AWARD NOMINATIONS DUE OCTOBER 17
The nomination deadline for the 2003 Mayor's Business Recognition Awards is October 17, 2003. The awards, co-sponsored by the Mayor's Office and the Baltimore Development Corporation, are given to companies for specific projects and activities that have significantly benefited the Baltimore community.
Please send support materials with your nomination form, including a description of the project, the number of people who benefited from the project, the number of people who participated in or volunteered for the project, and the overall impact or effect of the project. 3. APPLICATION DEADLINE FOR THE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM IS OCTOBER 13
The Leadership, a yearlong program sponsored by the GBC, is seeking candidates for its class of 2004. Baltimore-area executives from business, non-profit and government are invited to apply no later than Monday, October 13, 2003. Selection is based on professional and volunteer leadership, judgment, civic activity, concern for the community, and potential to help build a better Baltimore. 1. CITY SCHOOLS UNVEIL THREE-PRONGED FISCAL MANAGEMENT PLAN
Praising the Greater Baltimore Committee and the Presidents' Roundtable for their work to improve fiscal management of city schools, Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley and school leaders on August 27 unveiled a three-pronged plan to strengthen the way the Baltimore City Public School System (BCPSS) tracks and manages its finances.

2. EAST SIDE REVITALIZATION GETS FEDERAL FUNDING APPROVAL
East Baltimore Development, Inc. on July 28th announced the approval of federal loan guarantees that will channel more than $21 million toward the development of a life sciences park and neighborhood revitalization in East Baltimore.

3. COLLEGEBOUND HONORS FORMER GBC CHAIRMAN DEKE MILLER
Former GBC Chairman Decatur H. Miller was honored as the recipient of the CollegeBound Foundation's inaugural Diploma Award recognizing an individual making a significant impact on the education of Baltimore City's youth. Miller was presented the award at CollegeBound's Scholars Luncheon on August 7 in Baltimore.

4. FRY, GBC HOST RECEPTION FOR EBDI CEO SHANNON
The Greater Baltimore Committee and GBC President Donald C. Fry hosted a reception on July 17 for Jack Shannon, the new president and chief executive officer of East Baltimore Development, Inc. (EBDI), the non-profit organization that is leading the development of a life sciences park and revitalization of East Baltimore's neighborhoods. More than 120 people attended the event at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore Hotel.

5. LEGISLATORS, COUNTY OFFICIALS DISCUSS STATE BUDGET ON "ISSUES & ANSWERS"
The state budget is the topic of current segments of "Issues & Answers," the public affairs show produced by Comcast in partnership with the GBC. Legislators and county officials discuss the current state budget situation, the impact it has had on each of their jurisdictions, possible solutions to the budget problems, local legislation being considered for introduction during the 2004 General Assembly session, and other budget-related issues.

6. SECOND ANNUAL BEA GADDY DAY SCHEDULED FOR OCTOBER 3
Baltimore City's second annual celebration of the late Bea Gaddy's work on behalf of the homeless will be held this year on October 3. The citywide food collection and cancer prevention day marks the second anniversary of Gaddy's death from cancer in 2001.
The event, chaired by Baltimore City Council President Sheila Dixon with honorary chair Baltimore Mayor Martin O'Malley, allows residents to get involved through sponsorship, individual contributions, or by filling a "brown bag" with Safeway Food gift certificates at levels of $100, $500 or $1,000 to provide for families in need.

7. MBRT SEEKS VOLUNTEER SPEAKERS FOR CAMPAIGN TO HELP STUDENTS ACHIEVE
Spread the word to ninth grade students about how their performance in high school impacts their future success. GBC volunteers from the business community are needed to help send this message to students as part of Achievement Counts, an awareness campaign by the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education (MBRT).
