More than 850 of the region’s business and civic leaders will celebrate five decades of GBC vision, leadership and accomplishment at the GBC’s 50th Anniversary Annual Meeting on May 12.
The event, which begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Renaissance Harborplace Hotel, will feature a commemorative look at Baltimore’s revitalization since 83 business leaders met in 1955 to form the Greater Baltimore Committee. GBC membership now numbers more than 500.
The GBC’s formation and its work on issues ranging from downtown revitalization to transportation to bioscience development are credited with driving Baltimore acclaimed “renaissance.”
GBC leaders will also review progress on the GBC’s current strategic priorities, which include growing the region’s bioscience industry, developing comprehensive regional mass transit, building a strong minority and women-owned business sector, and strengthening the colleges and universities that serve as the economic engine and workforce incubators for our region and state.
The GBC will honor outgoing chairman Christian H. Poindexter and will elect Barbara A. Gehrig, senior vice president for Comcast’s Maryland/Delaware region, as the GBC's first female chair.
Atwood “Woody” Collins III, president and COO of M&T Bank, and Otis Warren Jr., owner and CEO of Otis Warren & Company, inc. will be elected vice chairmen. Robert C. Embry Jr., president of The Abell Foundation will be re-elected as GBC secretary/treasurer.
The GBC will also elect seven new board members to two-year terms: John B. Frisch, chairman and CEO, Miles & Stockbridge P.C.; Stephen A. Geppi, president and CEO, Diamond Comic Distributors, Inc.; William L. Jews, president and CEO, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield; Alexander T.
