GEHRIG NAMED GBC CHAIR; COLLINS, WARREN VICE CHAIR
Baltimore, MD Barbara A. Gehrig, senior vice president for Comcast’s Maryland/Delaware Region, will be named chairman of the Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC) at its 50th Anniversary Annual Meeting on May 12. Gehrig, the first female chair of the GBC, will succeed Christian H. Poindexter, retired CEO of Constellation Energy Group, who served as GBC chairman since May 2003.
“Barbara’s strengths will contribute to the development of Greater Baltimore,” said Donald C. Fry, president of the GBC. “Under Barbara’s leadership, Comcast has invested hundreds of millions of dollars to upgrade infrastructure across the region enabling the deployment of new technology including High Speed Internet Service, HDTV, Digital Video Recorders and OnDemand to name a few. As a technology leader with proven business-sense, she will serve the GBC well as she leads efforts to strengthen the region’s business climate.”
Gehrig has served as vice chairman of the GBC since May 2003. A 24-year veteran of the cable industry, Gehrig has held various operational and financial positions, including controller, vice president of finance, and general manager for Comcast. She now oversees regional operations for one of the leading communications, media and entertainment companies in the world. Gehrig leads a team of 2,000 employees that provides new communication technologies to 800,000 customers while strengthening Maryland and Delaware communities.

The GBC has done so much to strengthen the regional business climate and I look forward to working with the corporate community in my new role, as we continue our efforts to make the Baltimore region the best place to do business," said Gehrig.
In addition to her successful career with Comcast, Gehrig sits on the boards of the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center, Living Classrooms Foundation, Reginald F. Lewis Museum of Maryland African American History and Culture, Chesapeake Bay Foundation President’s Advisory Council, Villa Julie College President’s Advisory Council, and National Flag Day Foundation. She chairs the Cable Telecommunications Association of Maryland-Delaware-DC.
Gehrig has been recognized as one of the “Top 50 Business Women in Baltimore” by Baltimore Magazine and as one of “Maryland’s Top 100 Women” by The Daily Record in 2003 and 2005. In 2004, the Maryland State Department of Education recognized Gehrig as a “Friend of Maryland Education” for her partnership in the PRIDE: Maryland Public Schools campaign. She is a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park.
At its 50th anniversary 2005 annual meeting, the GBC will also name the following officers:

- Vice Chair: Otis Warren, Jr., owner & CEO, Otis Warren & Company, Inc.
- Secretary/Treasurer: Robert C. Embry, Jr., president, The Abell Foundation
Collins has been an executive vice president of M&T Bank since 1988 and has served as president for a number of its divisions in New York. Prior to joining M&T Bank, he was a senior vice president of J.P. Morgan & Company, where he held a number of positions in the U.S. and Brussels, Belgium. Collins is on many boards and is involved in a number of community and philanthropic activities. He is a graduate of Yale University.
Warren is the owner and CEO of a renowned residential and commercial real estate company in Baltimore City. He is a certified real estate appraiser, residential specialist and commercial investor that has redefined doing business in real estate beyond conventional boundaries by incorporating a holistic approach of land, business and the community. Warren’s business and community affiliations, as well as awards and honors are extensive. He is a graduate of the Community College of Baltimore.
Robert C. Embry, Jr., president, The Abell Foundation, will be re-elected as the GBC’s secretary/treasurer. Embry has served on the GBC board since 1996 and has been secretary/treasurer since 2000. The Abell Foundation allocates grants for schools, hospitals, and human service organizations that reach out to the disadvantaged in the Baltimore community and the region.
The GBC is comprised of leading businesses, nonprofits, educational and civic institutions from Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Howard counties. The GBC offers a comprehensive, yearlong schedule of programs and networking events for executives and business professionals on topics ranging from corporate teamwork to updates on key business climate and public policy issues.
