GREATER BALTIMORE COMMITTEE ANNOUNCES NEW BOARD MEMBERS
Baltimore, MD The Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC) elected seven new members to its Board of Directors at its May 12th annual meeting.
New board members elected to serve two-year terms are:
- John B. Frisch, Chairman & Chief Executive Officer, Miles & Stockbridge P.C.
- Stephen A. Geppi, President & CEO, Diamond Comic Distributors, Inc.
- William L. Jews, President & CEO, CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield
- Alexander T. Mason, Chief Operating Officer/Vice Chairman, Mercantile Bankshares
- Charles O. Monk II, Managing Partner, Saul Ewing LLP
- Edmond F. Notebaert, President & CEO, University of Maryland Medical System
- Mayo A. Shattuck III, President & CEO, Chairman of the Board, Constellation Energy Group
Jews is a former GBC board member and served as the GBC chairman from 1994 to 1996. Shattuck also returns to the GBC board, having formerly served from 1999 to 2001 when he was Chairman of Deutsch Banc Alex Brown.
The GBC's top strategic priorities in 2005, include: nurturing the growth of the bioscience industry in the Baltimore region, developing comprehensive regional mass transit, building a strong minority and women-owned business sector, and strengthening the colleges and universities that serve as the economic engine and workforce incubators for our region and state. The GBC is also working to strengthen ties between business leaders in the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. regions.
At the GBC annual meeting, Barbara A. Gehrig, senior vice president for Comcast’s Maryland/Delaware Region, was elected chair. Gehrig succeeds Christian H. Poindexter, retired CEO of Constellation Energy Group, who served as GBC chairman since May 2003.
The GBC is comprised of leading businesses, nonprofits, educational and civic institutions from Baltimore City and Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Howard counties. The GBC offers a comprehensive, yearlong schedule of programs and networking events for executives and business professionals on topics ranging from corporate teamwork to updates on key business climate and public policy issues.
