Dear GBC members:
In May 2007, the Greater Baltimore Committee will launch its Fellowship Program in Public Policy. We invite outstanding college graduates and postgraduates to accept challenging assignments on issues that affect our region's competitiveness and viability. Those selected for admission to the Greater Baltimore Committee Fellows Program will be full-time employees at the GBC office, overlooking Baltimore's Inner Harbor, for one year, with an opportunity for renewal for a second year, earning a salary and benefits commensurate with their education.
Founded in 1955 by a small group of business leaders, the GBC has become a regional coalition, representing premier businesses and prominent civic organizations from the City of Baltimore and the five surrounding counties. The GBC is recognized as a credible and respected force in public policy on a number of issues. We have served as a resource for businesses and government officials by generating reports on management and efficiency of Baltimore City government, Managing for Success, fiscal management of the Baltimore City Public Schools System, Governing through Leadership and Accountability, and Managing Baltimore's Inner Harbor Operations.
The GBC played a leading role in such high profile projects as the development of Charles Center, Baltimore's Inner Harbor, Oriole Park at Camden Yards, M & T Bank Stadium (home of the Baltimore Ravens), the renovation of the historic Hippodrome Theatre, the expansion of the Port of Baltimore, and the Convention Center and its expansion. Our current priorities include: nurturing major business development opportunities in the region; developing the region's life science industry potential; and strengthening the region's business, transportation, education, health care, and technology resources. For 52 years, the GBC continues to provide leadership that significantly impacts our region's development.
