TRANSIT PRIORITIES:
- Purple Line
Request $15 million to complete planning and environmental study of the Purple Line and additional funding, in an amount to be determined following study, for final design and construction. As envisioned, the Purple Line will operate between Bethesda and Silver Spring in Montgomery County, and extend into Prince George's County to connect with the Metrorail system.
- Baltimore Region Transit Plan
Request $15 million for planning and environmental study of Phase 1priority projects as proposed in the Baltimore Region Transit Plan and additional funding, in an amount to be determined following study, for design and construction of the Red Line. The Red Line, as proposed, will operate along a corridor that runs from the Woodlawn area on the west side of Baltimore to the Fells Point area on the east side of the city.
- Corridor Cities Transitway
Request $15 million to complete planning and additional funding, in an amount to be determined following planning, for design and construction of the Corridor Cities Transitway (CCT). The CCT as envisioned will operate along a corridor in Montgomery County from Shady Grove to Clarksburg.
- Southern Maryland Commuter Bus Initiative
Request $29 million for the completion of planning, design and construction and of the Southern Maryland Commuter Bus Initiative. Components of the initiative proposed for funding include construction of parking facilities in Charles, St. Mary's and Calvert counties, acquisition of over the road coaches to provide the service and intersection improvements at key locations along the MD 5 corridor from Waldorf to the Branch Avenue Metrorail Station just inside the Capital Beltway.
- Bus and Bus Facilities Funding
Request a total of $120 million in Bus and Bus Facilities Funding for the six year period from FY 2004-2009, at an average of approximately $20 million per year. These funds will be utilized to replace bus vehicles throughout the State of Maryland, including those operated by locally-operated, small urban and rural transit systems. Funds also will be used to improve bus support facilities
- MARC Capacity Expansion
Request $250 million for the MARC Capacity Expansion Program. Potential uses of funds include: capacity improvements; rolling stock; 4th track and station improvements at BWI Station; parking expansion; and maintenance facilities.
- Largo Metrorail Extension
Request $137.9 million to complete the three-mile extension of the WMATA Metro Blue Line from Addison Road to Largo in Prince George's County.
- Light Rail Double Tracking
Request $80.4 million to complete double tracking 9.4 miles of the Baltimore Light Rail System .
