GBC-member health care institutions to host vendor fair

Seven of the region’s top healthcare institutions and Greater Baltimore Committee (GBC) members will host a health care vendor fair on September 20 at Johns Hopkins University. The event will convene at JHU’s Turner Auditorium to introduce members of the health companies’ procurement staffs to the minority and women-owned business community (MWBE) and to discuss the procedures for doing business with their respective organizations.

The guest speaker at this event will be Congressman Elijah Cummings, who has been a passionate advocate for minority businesses. MWBEs can also expect to meet with local business resource providers.

For more than three years, the participating healthcare organizations have collaborated with the GBC’s Bridging the Gap Initiative to explore and implement ways of increasing their procurement with local MWBEs. The effort has been successful in producing significant increases in their MWBE procurement.

“Much of this success can be attributed to the unwavering support of the presidents of these institutions,” said GBC President and CEO Donald C. Fry. “The upcoming vendor fair is yet another way that the healthcare community continues to demonstrate its commitment to the Greater Baltimore region and to supplier diversity.”

Participating organizations are:

Bon Secours Baltimore Health System
CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield
Greater Baltimore Medical Center
Johns Hopkins Medicine
LifeBridge Health
MedStar Health
The University of Maryland Medical System
