University of Maryland Dean Richard Barth to be awarded for leadership in child welfare

The National Association of Public Child Welfare Administrators (NAPCWA) will award Richard P. Barth, PhD, dean of the University of Maryland School of Social Work, will receive the 2006 Peter W. Forsythe Award for Leadership in Child Welfare on Sunday, March 3 in Arlington Va. He was selected for his exceptional leadership and contributions in public child welfare which have led to improved outcomes for families and children across the nation.
Dean Barth has dedicated his academic career to understanding and improving outcomes for children and families served by public welfare agencies. He is a widely recognized scholar who draws on epidemiology, developmental research, theory, risk and protection research and intervention research to improve outcomes for children. Many of his studies have made a deep impact on the way public child welfare agencies provide services in a range of areas from preventing child abuse and neglect to improving adoption outcomes for older foster children and a range of topics in between.
