8/7/12 - Baltimore Business Journal - Eight Maryland companies received a total of $25.4 million in venture capital funding in the second quarter. That was down 74 percent from the $98.7 million that 25 companies in the state received in second quarter 2011, according to the National Venture Capital Association and PricewaterhouseCoopers’ MoneyTree report.

The decrease was part of a sharp drop in funding for biotechnology firms nationally, said Emily Mendell, a spokeswoman for the National Venture Capital Association. Funding for biotech companies fell to its lowest level since first quarter 2003, with VC firms investing $697 million in 90 deals nationally. (Read the full article)
