Greater Baltimore had the 23rd largest office market in the U.S. in 1999, representing a slight drop from 20th in 1997. However, the region maintained its l0th place position among the 20 metros.

Greater Baltimore rose from 12th to 5th among the 20 metros for office vacancy rate. The region's 1997 vacancy rate of 9.7 percent dropped to 7.8 percent in 1999. Metro areas, such as Dallas, Tampa and Boston have vacancy rates of more than 12 percent.

The region's warehouse vacancy rate eased from 15.8 percent in 1997 to 12.3 percent in 1999, yet the region's rank slipped from 18th to 19th.
